Surgical Release – 7 Years & Older

I understand that the doctors and staff will use all reasonable precautions against injury, escape or death of my pet. I understand that anesthesia and surgery involve some risk to my pet and give permission to proceed with anesthesia and/or surgery.

Pain Medication

Depending on the procedure, a pain injection may be given to your pet post-operatively. Every surgical patient will be sent home with pain medication.

Laser Therapy

Every surgical patient will receive laser therapy on their incision post-operatively. This procedure speeds up the healing process and relieves pain.

Anti-Nausea Medication

Some pets can experience nausea and/or vomiting from anesthesia. This can increase the risk of aspiration pneumonia and can make them uncomfortable or unwilling to eat following surgery. We recommend that your pet receive an anti-nausea medication to minimize this risk and discomfort.

Pre-Anesthetic Testing Authorization

Advances in anesthesia and surgery have made routine surgeries safer for our patients. While the doctors will perform a physical exam prior to surgery, an exam alone may not identify underlying medical conditions. With your pet being geriatric, for his/her safety we will perform pre-anesthetic bloodwork prior to anesthesia to help us identify any abnormalities that may increase the risk for your pet or cause us to postpone the procedure. For safety reasons, we will also be placing an IV catheter to allow us vascular access in the event of an emergency.
